If you’ve never trained a dog in your life, it may seem like an imposing job. Truth be told, there’s a lot to learn, so we won’t tell you you can learn everything there is to know in a single article. BUT… You can learn the basic guiding principles that will help you to understand the whole training process, to know why it works and how it works. Here are the three core principles of dog training…

Consistency

You have to run the same obedience regiment every day. You can’t punish a dog for stealing from the table one day, and then ignore it the next day. Whenever your dog steals from the table, deliver the exact same punishment you did last time. If they do a trick, always give them a reward. Inconsistency can sabotage any training regiment no matter how carefully planned out or effective it may have otherwise been.

Negative and Positive Reinforcement

Training a dog should really be equal parts positive and negative reinforcement. Don’t take it easy on them or neglect to reward them. You need both punishment and reward to raise a smart, emotionally healthy, obedient animal. Inconsistency, unbalanced training, they can both lead to the sort of dog we call a “spaz”. If you want a smart, obedient, sensible dog, keep the training consistent and balanced.

Show Your Dog Love

Don’t just be a drill sergeant, don’t ONLY pet them when they do a trick. Take time to pet them and scratch them and play with them just for fun. If they love you and if they feel loved, they will try to make you happy. You want them to obey out of love and discipline, not out of fear. So take care of them, make them your best buddies, and the training process will be a lot easier than if you have an adversarial relationship with your pooch.

Planning to construct a hen house for your chickens? Building chicken coops is easy when you decide on the design and what features you want to have. Chicken coops are rising in number and more and more people have them their backyards. Using the suggestions discussed on this page, you can be rest assured your birds will be safeguarded from the outside environment and wildlife. Raising hens in a barn can be fun and also provide food for you and your family. Although chickens are easy to raise, they demand suitable housing. But don’t be concerned using the ideas described right here, you can be sure to turn your hobby into a productive activity, even along with the chance of producing a revenue.

Before you even consider taking a look at a design for the coop, you need to determine whether or not you need a fixed or perhaps a mobile coop. Both have advantages, but the key things to consider are simply how much space you have and whether or not you want to have an easily transportable coop.

Next let’s take a look at the layout of the coop. You can find different hen coops designs available to pick from and you can even write out a plan on paper and build one. I generally think about the location where I would like to create a coop and take pen and paper to draw out a design. If you are not an architect, you need to use different resources on the web and choose one that’s probable as well as fits your preferences. If you have just began raising chickens, and planning to build your first coop, a small chicken house plan can turn out useful as it calls for less work and funds to spend. You can steadily expand your cage over time.

The designs you decide on for building chicken houses largely will depend on the location available in your backyard. For those who have less area, you are constrained to a small hen coop. When there is enough space, you are able to choose one from many of designs. Other people may find having a chicken coop irritant, but when you live in a country area, chicken coops are pretty common.

When building hen coops, an additional factor to consider is how many you wish to have. The more you have, the larger your chicken house needs to be. You need to choose the chicken size before you invest in a cage. A medium-sized hen house is enough for six to eight chickens. As making chicken houses based mostly on poultry size, the more hens you have the bigger your coop will be.

One of the main reason for which you are creating chicken houses is for safety from the outside environment as well as protecting your flock from predatory birds/animals. High care must be taken if you have pets that might cause harm to the flock. Also providing ideal amount of sunlight or warmth is needed for laying hens. Do you have pets that endanger the survival of your hens? If so, the animals that raise danger to your chickens are cats, foxes, and badgers. Having these animals as pets raises alarm and you need to keep extra care. Cover the rooftop of the coop with a nailed down wire to provide safety from a lot of threats. I typically make use of top quality materials while building chicken houses so I don’t need to reinvest in it for years to come as well as provide safety from other animals.

When finished with your project, you can start taking pleasure in fresh organic eggs daily with your own miniature farm right in the backyard. Nonetheless creating hen houses involves much thought. Picking the right chicken coop layout is essential and important for your backyard chicken farm!

The canny collar uses a soft touch approach to train your dog not to pull. The collar actually goes over your dogs’ snout and back around their head so you can direct them easily. The collar is sold as a training device but it looks so soft and secure I am sure you will be able to use for every walk. This collar will change your dog from one who pulls to one who walks with you.

The canny collar works because it applies force to the bridge of your dogs’ nose whenever he pulls you. The collar really goes over your dogs’ snout, in the middle between their eyes and nose, and then two straps go under and around your dog neck. Your leash connects to these two pieces so when your dog pulls you he will feel tension applied to the bridge of his nose. When your dog stops pulling the pressure on the bridge of his nose will stop too.

The canny collar applies pressure to both sides of your dogs’ head, this means he will not have his neck pulled quickly to one side. When your dogs’ neck is jerked to the side, as it can be with some training collars, your dog can have serious neck pain.

The way the canny collar is designed your dog will not be able to get it off the way they can with some collars. The only other training method I know about that is gentle and non-removable is the easy walk harness. Both of these do a great job of getting your dog to stop pulling.

Anyone who ever sold a no-pull training method always talked about the dog and what it would do for them. No one person ever said anything about how it would help the person walking the dog. As someone who owns a large dog I know the feeling of having your arm pulled so hard it feels like may come off, and the back pain that goes along with it. This will not happen to you any more after getting the canny collar. You will be able to take your dog for a walk and actually enjoy it.

The canny collar is a gentle way to get your dog to stop pulling you when on a walk. You will once again enjoy taking your dog for a walk after purchasing the canny collar.

One of the best ways to welcome a new puppy or dog to his new home is to get him a bed to call his own. Dog beds are designed to provide superior comfort for your four legged friend. Keep reading to find out what to look for.

First of all, get a good quality bed so your dog will actually want to use it. If you settle for a lumpy thin cushion, don’t be surprised to find him curled up on your couch. To avoid this, choose a thicker cushion which will provide greater comfort for him. Ensure that the dog bed will comfortably fit your dog when he is stretched out.

It is important to choose a bed that will be durable and long lasting. For example, a dog’s claws can be quite sharp and may easily shred a flimsy cover. You’ll also want a bed that will maintain its shape even when your pet always seems to lie down in the same spot all the time.

You will want to be sure that there is a way to keep his bed clean and free from odor. An unwashed bed will start to smell given enough time. The bed will smell but so will the room with the bed. There are a couple of ways to avoid this problem. Either buy a washable dog bed, or get a removable dog bed cover which can be taken off to be laundered.

If you need another reason to get a dog bed that is washable or has a removable cover, think fleas and ticks. Thoroughly washing the bed or cover can get rid of these pests. Make sure your dog wears a flea collar to avoid re-infesting the bed.

There is quite a variety of specialty dog beds available. For the ultimate in comfort there is a heated dog bed. These are especially popular during the cold winter months, but don’t discount their value in air conditioned homes. Cool air sinks so the floor of your home in the summer can be cooler than in winter.

The best bed for summertime outdoor use is the Coolaroo dog bed. Since it sits slightly elevated above the ground, the air is able to circulate under it, helping to keep your dog cool. Coolaroo dog beds are portable and lightweight making them the perfect dog bed to take on trips.

Lastly, if your dog is affected by arthritis or hip dysphasia, he is probably often in pain. A quality dog bed with orthopedic cushioning may be just what will help to ease his pain.

There are so many different types of dog beds available today that you should have no trouble finding just the right one for your favorite four legged friend.

To welcome a new puppy into his new home, nothing can be more comforting than a cozy cave dog bed. Visit heateddogbedreview.com to find out more.

A pet fence does not necessary have to house one of your pets. It can house an animal that you have found on the road or it may even house one of your neighbors pets that may have run away to your home.

A lot of people will use a fence for a pet if they are trying to get rid of a puppies or kittens. They will take the fence and put the animals in it to keep the animals contained while they are trying to sell or give away the animals.

These fences are a lot of help when you have an animal that likes to run away. Instead of going out and walking your pet when it is very cold or very hot outside, you can simply place the pet in the fence so they can go to the bathroom, never forget your pet and leave them with no shelter, food or water.

A pet is a lot of fun, but they can be a lot of money when you have to buy things such as a fence. Any kind of fence is not cheap, but when you find one that is used, you may be able to get a better deal than you would if you were to have to buy a new one.

There are various places which you will be able to find fences for your pets. There are online stores and even pet stores which carry these things and other things you may need for your pet.

Remember, you usually can not keep a cat contained unless it is put in an enclosed container. Even if the cat has no claws, they can still jump and may be able to get out.

It doesn’t matter where you buy your pet fence from as long as it is within your budget and it is something that will do the job and keep your pet contained like you want it to. Of course if you buy a privacy fence, this will benefit you and your pet, if you are someone who enjoys having your privacy.

When thinking about getting a leather dog harness there are a few things you will need to learn first. The variety of harnesses is very large. There are padded harnesses or ones with studs. Small ones are for a dog the size of a toy poodle or large ones fit a Saint Bernard.

A leather dog harness may be the right choice for you if you have a large or small dog that likes to pull. This is the main reason people choose harnesses. If your dog likes to pull and you have a collar on them it can cause damage to your dogs trachea. Getting a leather harness one can be a little more expensive than a nylon one but it should last longer, it is more durable and it is definitely more stylish.

People always thought that a leather dog harness would be hard on their dogs’ skin but the way they are made now, that should not be a concern. The leather that is used is either rounded or soft and you can buy a harness that has padding on the inside for your dogs comfort. Another thing you can try is the easy walk harness, it is not made of leather but it will do the job of “no more pulling” during a walk.

Think about what you will be using the harness for before buying one. A Professional dog like those in a K9 unit, use a protection leather dog harness. These have extra thick felt behind the breast plate which will absorb any shock the dog may incur. This harness is also great for any large dog who pulls and yanks you when you go for a walk.

When dog owners consider which dog harness is right for their dog, they never seem to consider what the harness will mean for them as the dog walker. If you walk your dog with only a collar on and your dog likes to pull, you really do not have control. A leather dog harness gives you the restraint you need to stop your dog from those quick yanks and pulls that can have your arm or back in agony for days.

You may just want a leather dog harness for the look it gives to your dog or one that suits your fashion, but do not forget that they are also strong and long lasting.

Whether you are the happy owner of your first horse, or if you have a stable full, you may find this handy guide to horse rugs useful. What has really changed in recent years is that you can buy a wide assortment of top quality horse rugs online. The easy availability of rugs from all around the world makes picking and choosing what you need more interesting. You have many more alternatives now, so here are some points to consider.

The climate and the type of horse will make choosing a bit easier. You will need to have rugs in different weights, though. And know that even the highest quality rugs are made to tear off the horse should it become tangled or torn. The safety of your horse comes first, and worry over torn rugs, last.

Regardless of the season, rugs are designed to tear away from any horse when tangled or torn. This is a safety measure that does not reflect on the quality of the rug. In the wintertime, you should choose a heavyweight turnout rug. It is designed to protect a clipped or finer horse from severe cold. But, do keep in mind that some fabrics will make your horse sweat and become damp. Try to avoid those in favour of fabrics that breath a little. This will help to keep your horse safer, too.

In the springtime, you should look for a lightweight rug. Most horses will still need to have some kind of cover, because it is often windy and still wet with sporadic showers. Some owners decide to use a lightweight rug with an extra fleece lining added to protect a hardy horse with a shaggy coat through the winter. Though a horse may be hardier, it will still need some extra warmth from a good fleece liner. It will be the same in the autumn when the weather starts to be changing frequently.

For the times when the horse is stabled, you should own a stable rug. These are generally made of warm fleece. This type of rug is essential when a horse is not able to exercise to generate warmth. Standing in a stable can be quite cold.

If you are looking for one good, all weather rug, then you might try a New Zealand rug. These are made of canvas that can be waxed to make it waterproof. These are very traditional because they are the oldest version still available. And they are one of the most popular rugs.

Measuring your horse for the proper size rug may be accomplished by using online charts. The charts will often give you measurements in Hands, British, and Continental systems. You should generally plan to measure the horse from the centre of the chest to end of horse using a line parallel to the top of the tail. When in doubt, contact the online company and ask.

Some specialty rugs include fly sheets to protect your horse from biting flies. Also available are rugs that will wick excess moisture away from the coat. These are referred to as show rugs. Some companies offer magnet filled rugs that are said to improve circulation and muscle tone. These specialty items may help any horse to feel better.

We love our dogs, if you treat them right then they are as true a friend as you could ever hope for, but they need our help to look after them if we want them to stay healthy and happy. Since we have domesticated dogs and taken them out of their natural habitat then we have taken away their natural ability to look after themselves and surrounded them with new dangers they are not used to, so it is up to us to help them avoid those new dangers. Below we discuss 5 ways to look after your dog:

Keep dangerous items out of reach: In many ways then dogs are like children, they are naturally curious and they don’t understand how dangerous different things can be until it is too late. How can your innocent dog know that the bleach bottle it is biting into is going to hurt it? Or that eating your small ornaments could cause it to choke? Instead keep all small things your dog could eat or anything sharp or dangerous liquids etc out of reach like you would do with a young child.

Regular grooming: Grooming is not just about making your dog look good, it is also an important part of their care. When you bathe your dog then you remove dirt and parasites that can cause problems later, especially if it causes them to scratch which opens up a wound that can get infected. When you brush your dog then you are not just removing dead hair, you should also be checking over your dog for anything that might be wrong, rashes or scratches etc, that you can catch before they get worse.

Look after their teeth: Think about how painful a toothache can be for us, you wouldn’t wish that on your dog would you? Then you need to help them to look after their teeth. Inspect your dog’s teeth regularly for anything which might indicate a problem, and also start to brush their teeth for them. They won’t like it at first, but do it enough and they’ll get used to it. Don’t use human toothpaste when you brush their teeth, that could make them sick, use special dog toothpaste instead. You can also get special dog chews which help to clean their teeth as they chew them, you could get your dog some of them for in-between brushes.

Stop giving them scraps: Dogs are not supposed to eat human food, and while they might beg for it and they will definitely eat it if you give it to them, then scraps from your meal could make them sick. Dogs do not react well to certain foods, chocolate can have a bad effect on them, and even garlic powder could seriously harm your dog, and that is in all sorts of things like pizza etc. So instead stick with proper dog food, and if they do beg at the table then train them out of it for their own sake.

Regular exercise: Dogs need exercise, they are energetic animals and they need to get out and stretch their legs. If we don’t exercise then we put on weight and our health starts to suffer, the same goes for a dog, so make sure you take them out every day and let them run around for a bit. You don’t need to run with them, get yourself a ball or a stick to throw for them and they can run themselves silly while you sit down on a bench and relax!

If you need a bed for your dog to sleep in after all that exercise you are going to be giving him/her, then check out the indestructible dog beds at IndestructibleDogBeds.com.

Dogs and children are similar in many ways. Both children and most dogs have a short attention span. It’s sometimes difficult to find things to keep them occupied. The common thing that keeps both children and dogs occupied are playing with toys. Toys made for children are not usually ideal for dogs. Dogs for the most part are more destructive by nature because of the constant biting and pulling on items.

Dogs by nature have a tendency to be amused when they can destroy something. You might have experienced this with your dog and your personal items being chewed on and destroyed. Nothing is more disappointing to come home and notice your new shoes are all torn up. As a dog owner, you can have some control on the destructive behavior with providing your dog with a toy made just for them. Dog toys are typically more durable than toys made for children.

Toys that are made especially for dogs will help reduce the destructive behavior they would normally develop playing with items not made for dogs. Dog toys are made durable enough to withstand to normal abuse they would get with dogs. They are usually constructed with durable rubber material, bone like texture, or hard plastic construction.

In addition to taming a dog’s destructive behavior with toys made for them. Dog toys offer a wonderful way for them to stay fit and healthy. These play items durability is a challenge for a dog to destroy, they tend to exert more energy. Plus, dog toys today are usually made where a dog can get exercise from running and pulling. The common play items are a rubber ball type object, strong rope structure, thick bone like material to name a few.

Some things you may want to consider when purchasing a toy for your dog. Make sure the toy is not too small to avoid swallowing. It should not have sharp or pointed edges. There should not be any strings or ribbons where a dog can rip and eventually swallow. Avoid toys that operate on batteries. The type of toy should fit your dog’s personality.

Young dogs like children develop to what influences they’ve been exposed to early in their life. Toys alike have an influence on how they develop. Wisely choose play items to sculpt the way you want your dog to develop into.
