Face painting is very simple and can be easily learned. One can perfect the art by practicing which also polished the skill with time. One must have the required tools, paints and utensils for it which helps in enhancing the talent and making more creative designs. For the purpose of face painting, cosmetic paints should be used; moreover water based paints are more popular as they can be easily washed off. Basic colors for paints should be bought and used to form the other colors.
Start with having brushes of different sizes. The thin ones are used for making outlines and the curves, standard ones are used for painting the surrounding area and the thick brushes are for filling in the big areas.
Paint must be applied in thin layers otherwise thick layer may crack up and will mess up the design and the whole effect of the painting. If applying second layer of paint, one must wait till the first dries up otherwise if cleared up both layers have to be removed. Apply the background colors after the curvatures and then fill in the details.
As it involves skin and most importantly the face skin, thus some tips must be kept in mind while painting. One must not paint on skin which has pimples, cut, cracks or scratches or on sensitive skin. Eyes and lips are also prone to infections thus painting close to these openings should also be avoided.
Always keep a roll of paper towels, or face clothes with you while you are going to paint face. Use fresh, dirt free rinse water. Keep in mind, if the brush will be too damp, the paint will run. Use the towel to pull glut water out of the brush. Visualize the finished face, or design, which you are going to paint before you start. Do not postpone it, as you go along. Set a basic face design in your mind, and you can add unique touches to this once you are done.
As face paints are cosmetics, it can be dangerous to use regular paint on skin, particularly on the face of a child. The most essential aspect to look for in face painting is that it must be FDA or EEC approved. It is also very important that your paints should be water-based, and not grease-based. Do not keep your make-up on your face for more than 6 hours. Your skin will become stinging, and scratchy if you keep it on for too long.
